Mens Fashion Tips - Power Dressing Rules

By:

It is not uncommon for society to focus on appearance rather than capabilities or personality. Because of this, often an opinion is often formed based on appearance before you are even introduced to an individual. This can be disastrous for the fashion impaired, especially when dealing with business related tasks.

There are some definite dos and donts for todays business attire. If you want to be a successful power-dresser you should familiarize yourself with these rules.

Ground Rules of Power Dressing
The first rule of business attire is to dress nicely and be properly groomed. Always choose a suit over less formal clothing when dealing with clients or those higher up on the corporate ladder. Underestimating the importance of appearing well-groomed and well-turned out could very well cost you the job!

Be Discreet- Bling is Out!
Appropriate accessories for a business meeting will be noticeable but not flashy or gaudy. A nice set of cuff links or watch, a power tie with a tie tack and a smart pair of leather dress shoes are really the only accessories you need.

Do not overdo the jewelry. Unless you are a rap star you do not need bling. A simple pair of cuff links or a nice watch will be sufficient wrist wear. Large gold bracelets are just too much for the office. Your wedding ring is acceptable for hand wear or any small ring; you do not want people watching your hands rather than your presentation.

Tying it in With a Power Tie!
A power tie is a definite do for business wear. Power ties draw attention to your face when you are looking at your companions, but do not draw attention from projects when it is time to work. Ultimately red is known as the best color for a power tie, but if this does not appeal to you or blend with your ward robe choose a tie that will.

Power ties should be medium to narrow ties that tuck nicely into your coat or hang just above your waist band when you are not wearing a coat. Power ties can be solid color or any bright print, but should never be flashy. You can dress a power tie up slightly by adding a tie tack. If you chose to wear cuff links and tie tack be sure that they match and are simple enough that you do not seem over dressed.

Almost There - It is a Sure Shoe In
Make sure that your shoes do not make you appear over or under dressed as well. A simple pair of black leather dress shoes can be paired with nearly any business suit. They will look professional for at work meetings or interviews and still be dressy enough for business dinners or parties. A good pair of leather shoes can be rather expensive, but should be looked at as an investment. They will last for many years and be an impressive part of your wardrobe.

Always dress for the title you want rather than the title you have. If you aspire to lofty heights the only way to achieve this position is to look like you can do the job. Ignore the price of clothing and purchase a few pieces of quality wardrobe. This shows that you are conscientious and invested in your future.
