Mens Fashion Advice - Trendy Weekend Attire

By:

Ah, the weekend. It's the time to take off the workday tie, leave the office wingtips in the shoe cabinet and just bum around the house. But just because you're taking a break for a couple of days doesn't mean your fashion sense has to as well. There's a way to still look good on weekends, so you're always ready to roll if someone important comes knocking.

Just like with any style in men's fashion, there are a few key pieces to get for that great weekend wardrobe. Fortunately, almost all of these items are extremely easy to get and even easier to maintain.

First things first: get yourself a sports jacket. This more casual kin of your suit is the best thing to have during the weekend because you can just throw it on anything to dress it up. Heck, even a shirt and jeans get an upgrade to 'creative formal' simply by adding a jacket. Get an unlined cotton or pinwale corduroy jacket in navy, olive or gray, as those colors can go with just about anything you could possibly wear.

While you're in the outerwear section, grab yourself a v-neck sweater too. They're great for layering over a plain shirt and under a jacket, especially if you get one in navy. If it's a little colder where you live, a cable-knit sweater might be a better idea. Thicker and much cozier, the texture gives an instant design that sets you apart from the crowd.

Denims are supposedly de rigeur for weekend wear, but the stylish man knows better. Go for comfy and casual khakis and pants, gray, white or black is a good idea, because you can turn them into semi-formal outfits at a moment's notice.

There's really no secret to the stylish weekend. The only thing you have to remember is to layer, layer, layer. Suppose you're at home in khakis and a shirt, when you suddenly have to go to the supermarket. Layer a v-neck sweater for going out. And then you get called to dinner at a nice sit-down. Wear a jacket over what you're already wearing.

Keep in mind that, while each layer adds warmth, there's also such a thing as too warm. Don't get carried away with adding more layers to your outfit because anything more than three will be uncomfortably stuffy in any season other than winter. Just keep your look simple and wear only what you have to wear to keep the dress code happy.

Individually, the pieces described above aren't very interesting. Heck, they can be just boring. But the key to making them all look good is wearing them with one another to pull off the stylishly relaxed weekend look.
