Memory Foam Uses In Medical Facilities

By:

The newer mattresses which feature memory foam are being touted as the best method to give you some peaceful and more restful sleep. These mattresses and the products that they are made from were originally designed to be used in the space programs to allow for more restful and relaxing methods of sitting and lying. They have evolved to an outstanding degree since the time of inception.

Memory foam moved outward from the space program and began to take root in the medical community as a superb way to alleviate problems that were unable to be corrected using standard bedding methods. These days it is not only used by medical communities but also by multiple clients who simply want a better and more restful night's sleep.

One of the biggest problems with standard bedding was that it did not permit airflow and did not always support the body well. Pressure areas developed on the body which caused the sleeper to need to move and to reposition from time to time. This interrupted sleep and caused the sleep to be less restful and to have less depth to it.

Likewise, the pressure that regular bedding placed on the body of an infirm patient caused circulatory disorders that could lead to the breakdown of tissue. When a patient is unable to move well, the pressure that lies on one given area means that tissue can break down and lead to pressure sores.

While repositioning is still a necessity, the memory foam creates a situation where pressure on a given point is less likely to take place. This means that even in situations where you or a patient is unable to readily reposition their body, the breakdown of tissue will take place far less frequently.

The reason for this is that memory foam supports the body and assures better alignment while preventing pressure from taking place on one given area. It causes that better spreading of the pressure is offered so that the entire body is being used to support the weight of itself as opposed to just one or two areas taking all of that weight and losing circulation.

Medical facilities are now using memory foam in vast numbers around the globe to assure that their clients and patients rest more comfortably and are less likely to develop pressure sores when they are bed-fast or have difficulty in movement.

Not only infirm or patients who have difficulty moving are using memory foam for their own care, but also those who are suffering from the inability to sleep. Insomniac patients suffer a lower level of restful sleep. In many cases, the foundation that they are sleeping on has been proven to be partly to blame for their lack of rest.

When offered a bedding the gave them more support and assured the proper alignment of the body, many of those patients who were attending clinics to help them to sleep better and gain more rest found that they were sleeping longer and more deeply. Memory foam is not only a comfort material, but also one which offers medically proven results for multiple types of patients.
