Meeting Shipping Deadlines Are Important

By:

Deadlines getting missed are a fact of life in the business world that people can't seem to avoid despite all of their best intentions. The larger courier companies which do most of the international shipping in the world always have a cut off on all their shipping options. This means that if you want a package to be picked up on a certain day, you will have to place your order by a certain time.

FedEx or UPS themselves will tell you that if you miss the cutoff time you're essentially all but out of options. Except from some highly expensive specialty shipping options that they might have available, they will tell you that they will pick the package up the next day. Some local couriers have agreements with those larger companies that make it possible to circumvent the cutoff times when necessary.

New Jersey courier service companies do this by essentially making a delivery to the UPS or FedEx depot, usually at the airport for air shipping. Essentially, you can get the smaller, local courier company to make a rush pickup on your order. They have special agreements in place with the larger courier companies that allows them to make drop offs later in the day (after the FedEx or UPS cut off time) that will still result in the package being sent out on the day that you want it to go out on.

The cost of this service may depend on how much past the cutoff time you are making this request of the smaller courier company. If they can simply make the pickup as part of a scheduled run, then the cost is actually relatively affordable. On the other hand, if they have to dispatch a rush vehicle to make the pickup and the delivery you will certainly see an increase on the cost front.

Using this service regularly obviously isn't the best option, as in a very real way you're going to end up paying for part of your shipping twice on every single order that you send. However, there are certainly situations where customer satisfaction can be worth more to your customers than saving every penny on a shipment. In those situations, using these missed cutoff services can be a great way to make sure that your clients get their packages on time. Most couriers will advertise this as a "missed cutoff" or "late pickup" service.
