While the MBA aspirants across the country are keeping the electricity meters moving in the night, the IIMs are preparing the groundwork for a smooth admissions process for the 2012-14 batch. With the
CAT 2011 registrations already begun the IIMs are now publishing the admissions criteria for 2012-14 batch.
The IIMs which have recently announced the admissions criteria for next years admissions are: IIM Calcutta, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Rohtak, IIM Raipur, IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode.
The admissions criteria of these IIMs mention the weightage that will be assigned to the
CAT 2011 scores for GD-PI shortlisting as well as final selection. The criteria also mentions the weightage that will assigned to work experience, Class X and XII marks, WAT, GD, PI.
The admissions criteria document also clearly states the admissions process in detail. You need to check these out as some IIMs will not be conducting GD for admissions 2012.
The release of admissions criteria for next years admissions in advance is a welcome step, as there have been complaints from many students who had got good percentile in
CAT exam but who had not been called for the GD PI by the IIMs. In many cases students who had even got 99 percentile were denied GD PI call citing the admission criteria.
Till now the IIMs were announcing their admissions criteria post the
CAT exams, which was leading to many heart breaks for students who had scored well. This development will certainly give good direction to the preparation by MBA aspirants.
There had been lot of hue and cry over the past few years after IIMs released their admission criteria. Many candidates found out that in spite of getting good CAT scores, they could not meet the other criteria like past academic records, work experience etc. This time, there has been a positive change in the trend. So it is an indication for you that if you cannot find yourself meeting all the criteria, do not aim for IIMs.
There were many CAT takers in the past who, in spite of fulfilling the IIM cut offs did not get call for the second round of admission like the group discussion, personal interview or written ability test. They kept wondering about the reason which turned out to be the past academic records did not fit the bill.
If you are planning to register for
CAT 2011, or have already applied for the same. Get acquainted with the admission criteria of the IIMs. If you do not meet them, there is no need to worry. There are many good B-schools apart from IIMs and studying there will be no less opportunity for you.
