Maruti is Indias most popular and reputed brand for cars. The company, which trades as Maruti Suzuki India Limited, is a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan. It is also Indias largest passenger car company, having begun operations in the country in 1984.

In 2009, the Maruti A star has been voted as the "car of the year" by a prominent automobile magazine in India, and also the best small car by another magazine.
