Marmox, Shires And Mira Showertrays Compared And Tested

People are putting more thought than ever before into the design and manufacture of their showers and it's not before time. Not only does it make sense to give a little aesthetic consideration to the look of this often neglected area of the house, but there are also significant safety considerations. With that in mind we'll turn out attention to perhaps the most important part of any design: the shower base. To demonstrate the options available, we'll look closely at some of the different types of products available on the market: Marmox, Mira and Shires. All are experts in the area and all have their own benefits and drawbacks.

First things first, let's get down to the consideration of safety. The dangers presented by slippery flooring in the shower are very real. Every year X people injury themselves with falls. With so much glass and solid angular surfaces around it's all too easy to do yourself serious harm.

A good shower base has to be firm and solid. It is most commonly made of acrylic closely followed by stone resin. Some people opt for an acrylic shower tray. These are generally cheaper, but are not as sturdy and can be difficult to install. Some people like to go for glass to produce a really sparkling effect. This can look very striking, but is not practical for a busy home.

With that in mind, let's look at the options starting with Showerstone from Marmox. This is a solid base that can be laid directly onto floor joists without any further support. It is strong and sturdy enough to have vynl and mosaic tiles laid over the surface.

Marmox believes this gives it the edge by addressing many of the major weaknesses associated with shower trays. However, there are other options. Mira, for example, produces an attractive chrome based design which has integral upstands to make it entirely watertight. Meanwhile, if you really want to put the boat out Shires has a stunning design made from heavy weight bonded resin. It is expensive but produces a top quality option.

Whichever of these you choose: Marmox, Shires or Mira, you should always consider your unique requirements. For example, the physical layout of your bathroom will have a crucial influence on your designs, as will the number of type of people using it. Taking that in mind you can weight up considerations such as cost, practicality, safety and aesthetics together to make sure you end up getting the right design for you. Always shop around, do your research and most importantly, use expert consultation.
