Located in New Zealands South Island, the Marlborough region boasts rich and rugged natural landscapes that offer unforgettable outdoor adventures. Enjoying a temperate climate, the region is home to imposing mountain ranges, lush green scenery, idyllic vineyards and pristine waterways that make the perfect backdrop for a journey of discovery like no other. Outdoor enthusiasts can also take part in a wide range of activities such as rafting, hiking, fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, sailing and kayaking.

One of the main attractions in the region is the Marlborough Sounds, made up of the Pelorus, Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds. This natural wonder consists of sea-drowned valleys and various scenic landscapes that provide countless hours of exploration. Making up around 20% of the countrys coastline, the area features native forests that are home to orchids, punga tree ferns and Rimu trees, some of which are 800 years old!

Spanning an area of approximately 4,000 square kilometres, the Marlborough Sounds was home to native Maori groups who lived off the land, gaining shelter and food from the natural bounty around them. While this breathtakingly beautiful area stretches from Tasman Bay all the way up to Cloudy Bay, each sound offers a different and unique experience. The Kenepuru Sound offers plenty of outdoor excursions and those heading to the Pelorus Sound can enjoy such activities as sea kayaking in the areas pristine bays.

Set amidst scenic coves, bays and picturesque coastlines, the well known Queen Charlotte Sound is a popular place to visit. Used by ancient Maori tribes people, this area is steeped in history and is also where one will find the Queen Charlotte Track. Spanning around 71 kms, this popular track takes visitors on an unforgettable journey past awe-inspiring landscapes and panoramic vistas. Another site here is the town of Picton which has a port from where one can catch a ferry to the North Island.

Travellers heading to the region and looking for a centrally located Marlborough hotel
