Mario G.racco Releases Proposals To Address Planning In Vaughan

Policy paper outlines ideas for Planning for Vaughan's Future Vaughan, ON (May 25, 2010) ' Vaughan mayoralty candidate Mario G.Racco today released his second
set of policy proposals aimed at restoring public confidence in Vaughan's municipal government. His 16- point Planning for Vaughan's Future addresses his proposed changes to the planning process in the city.

The people of Vaughan do not feel that growth is being managed in the city's best interests, Racco said. They see changes being made that surprise them, because they
seem to make little sense, or because they feel they haven't had any advance notice.

Racco believes that many residents and businesses feel shut out of the planning process in Vaughan, and they suspect that important decisions are being made about Vaughan's
future with little concern to their needs.

They have not only lost confidence in the process, but have become suspicious of it. I hope to clear up that suspicion by making planning decisions open and accountable.

Racco's Planning for Vaughan's Future consists of 16 points, each of which would help restore people's confidence in the planning process in Vaughan.

The proposals include:

-Creating a developer registry, similar to a lobbyist registry;
-Making plain-language explanations of planning decisions easily accessible;
-Developing aesthetic design standards for areas across the city;
-Expanding the public consultation process for community upgrades; and
-Re-establishing the Vaughan Economic Development Commissioner.

I am not against growth, Racco said. I know that growth, when properly planned and built, is an asset to a city such as ours.

I simply want to return confidence to the process, by making it more accountable to all.

Under my leadership, City Council will be more accountable to the people of Vaughan, and do a better job of keeping residents informed of decisions that affect them,
Racco said. The actions I am proposing will help Vaughan become a well-managed, vibrant, admired city.
