Many Opportunities For Adventure: Ski Utah

There are many wonderful resorts to ski in Utah. For those who are new to the world of skiing, the slopes are labeled according to difficulty using a standard color symbol system. Those labeled with a green circle are the easiest and can accommodate all levels of skill. The next is a blue square. On these trails or slopes, there are parts that may require more experience or maneuverability.

They also might have more steep of an incline that requires more skill to control speed and braking when necessary. The next step up is a black diamond. On these runs, you will find moguls, difficult trees or other obstacles to maneuver through, or even steeper terrain. Above that are double black diamonds, which involve more of the challenging features, including areas of cliffs.

Ski resorts have lifts to carry you up to the top of the mountain slopes. Larger resorts have a series of lifts taking you higher and higher up the mountain to get to other sections of the resort. You might take one lift up to the top of one hill, and then ski down the back side of the hill to another lift. This second lift with take you further and higher up the mountain.

For those who are knew to skiing and would like to learn. Many resorts offer what they call a kiddy slope. The grades are gradual and allow you to get comfortable on your feet. Typically there is a rope at the bottom you can hold on to that will pull you back up the hill to try again.

Today, skiing involves a lot more than just the slopes.. Many of the ski resorts have begun focusing more on the word resort. They have taken advantage of the fact that people come from out of town to ski, and will be interested in staying several days at a time. A favorite in Utah is Solitude Ski Resort lodging. The theme is a play off of their name, claiming that there are many opportunities for you to find solitude during your stay.
