Manage Your Money: Things you should always buy used

There are many things you should always buy used if you plan to save your money. Sure all of us love the excitement of making a trip to a shopping center and getting something brand new. It's fun to cut off the packaging, scan through the user guide and know that we are the 1st to use it. For some people even the odor can be something of a thrill or listening to the bindings fold into place for the1st time has a certain allure. Is paying 3 or 4 times as much actually worth it?

I've compiled a list of five things you should buy used to save many dollars in your lifetime:

1. DVD's or CD's - Most video rental stores offer a giant selection of previously watched DVD's. There are also lots of retail outlets that sell DVD's and CD's. The catch is there may be a tiny imperfection in the case or a slight scratch on the DVD itself. Purchasing brand new movies or CD's can be quite expensive sometimes 2 or3 times more.

2. BOOKS - A lot of people only read a book once. Books are not cheap when you purchase them brand new. There are lots of used book stores that sell big titles at way below the regular price and more often than not they have new releases too.

3. KIDS TOYS - Most parents should know this money saving idea. You will literally save hundreds if not thousands of dollars if you purchase used kids toys. A friend of mine had a child a last January and their baby only has used toys. A child will play with anything. You could give them a brightly painted, nicely sanded block of wood and the kid will have fun for hours. Buying little kids toys used at a garage sale is worth every penny. Just give it a nice wash and you're child will be happy as can be.

4. CARS - This may not be easy for some people to swallow but buying a new car is a waste of your money. Sure it smells nice and you can see your reflection off of every surface but that new automobile will lose close to fifteen per cent of its value in the first 12 months. If you are worried about buying a lemon, do a history check on the car. The world wide web is your friend when it comes to studying your vehicle purchase. Web pages like CarFax will send you that history for a minimal fee. Consumer Reports is another quality resource. When you take the car out for a test drive, bring it to your trusted mechanic and have him do a quick check. There are a lot of great deals on used cars out there. Buy used.

Let's face it. In plenty of cases purchasing something used doesn't make a lick of difference. 9 times out of 10 a used DVD works just as great as a brand new one. A book reads completely the same new or used. The only things we pay for when we buy a brand new product is the convenience and ease at which it is to locate and the knowledge that you are the first to use it. If you do a little research buying used will save you plenty of cash down the road. We are all consumers and have to buy things but think about ways to better manage your money and consider these 4 things you should buy used.
