Making Your Michigan Home Security Plan Fire On All Cylinders

By:

Making grand gestures in your Michigan home security plan is the way to get started on the road to safety for your family. There is no question about that. However, in the midst of bold statements like grand home alarm consoles and other yard monitoring measures, you can find yourself slipping off the path to perfection. Here are five ideas for making sure your Michigan home security system is firing on all cylinders.

1. Take a wide-angle view with motion sensors. How far are your motion sensors reaching across your property? Are they watching over your garage and upper floors when no one is at home? If not, there may be a number of unnecessary chances you are taking. Home alarm systems are more sophisticated than ever, so you might as well use them to their maximum potential. Motion sensors should cover any area where a human being (of varying sizes) can slip inside and do damage.

2. Go with a monitoring service firing on all cylinders. If you have perfected the attack of your alarm system, shouldnt you expect the same from your monitoring service? There are monitoring services which are not fazed by any problem in your area and there are others which cannot handle a simple brownout. Go with the company which is as professional as the one which installed your alarm. In some cases, this might mean getting both services from the same company.

3. Step up your fire prevention. How well is your home prepared to handle a blaze on any level? Do you have an evacuation route planned for your family? Are the smoke detectors connected to your home alarm system? Each of these measures is going to allow you to step up your fire prevention and ability to react in a big way. Security measures should definitely be directed toward keeping out prowlers, but you cannot forget the risk a family presents to itself on a daily basis.

4. Change codes so you are the only one using the master password. If you have domestic employees, you may have a number of people using your main alarm code. This isnt a good idea, because these people can end up being forced to give up the code to an armed intruder or some other such disaster. Make sure you are the only one with the main code so you can keep track of whats happening and whos entering.

5. Use light timers and a safe to effect. Light timers might seem like a simple thing, but they go a long way in tricking prowlers into thinking your home is occupied. If you couple them with TV timers, you will end up making your house look like its full every day of the year. Another great technique is using a safe to hold any valuables. If there is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, youll discourage a burglar every time.
