Making Your Home Perfect For You

By:

The most common mistake people make when redecorating is that they get overly excited. Many want to change too many elements without seeing the big picture. Some go about it without a plan - making changes here and there that do not really go together. Seeing the results, many get frustrated from their first attempts at home decor. Avoid common beginner mistakes by following these simple tips!

1.When you are deciding on a color scheme for your entire house or even just a room in your house, be sure to think about the walls first. Selecting the correct color for your walls will be important as they will "frame" everything else that you bring into a room. To decide what colors would work best on your walls; think about the overall design scheme that you plan to go with. Are you going to do a brightly colored theme in the room? If so, the next step is to ask yourself whether you want the walls to be brightly colored and the furniture neutral of vice versa. While it may be a little too chaotic to have both the walls and furniture be brightly colored, by selecting one you can ensure that your room will "pop" just as you want it to. Likewise, use relaxing colors if you want a calmer room, especially a bedroom or bathroom.

2.To bring life into any room of your home, bring actual life to it using live plants and fresh flowers! While more and more artificial plants and flowers continue to look more real by the day, consider a live plant to bring a little more excitement into any room of your home. If you are constantly traveling and wouldn't be home to water your plant or flowers, this idea might not work very well for you. However, for most people, the addition of a live plant or collection of flowers could be the very thing they need to update their home!

3.When bringing design into a new home, think about the past, too! Just because you're decorating a home currently doesn't mean you can't use clues from the past to help you get a warm feeling that reminds you of summers spent with your grandparents or other close relatives. Do you love the rugs your grandmother put in each bedroom of her house? Look through rugs for sale to see if you can find similar oval rugs or other area rugs that would work well with your design scheme. Do you like the quilt that is spread out over the edge of your grandmother's bed? Ask her to help you select one that will remind you of her - something that is sure to touch every grandmother's heart!

With these helpful tips, you should be able to be on your way towards designing a new dcor scheme for your home that impresses you without overwhelming you. Whenever you begin the design process, remember to take your time and go slowly - there's no need for a race to the finish line of home dcor! In the end, you'll be thankful for the extra time and effort you put into your home to make it your own.
