When you have had a fire in your home and it has damage to the floors, walls, and almost everything, you have to do some repairs to fix it up. You can fix it the way it was or you can make it different and add some things to it. You can do this even if the fire was a small one because that kind of fire can still do a lot of damage to your homes. If the damage is really bad, you may have to tear down your home and rebuild it from the ground up and you may have to fix the foundation too.

The damages from fire can burn holes in the walls and floors, leaving charred wood behind and black soot everywhere. You may have to replace everything you had after the fire is out. Nothing can be done to your house until it is safe to go in. First you want to have your insurance look at the house and get all the damages recorded. Most insurance companies will pay to have the home repaired to the former state, but making upgrades that were not there before might have to come out of your own pocket.

The area will have to be checked for anything that needs repair first of all. There can be damaged wiring or plumbing in your homes will have to be fixed because it may have melted or burned up. If you plan to change where outlets or light switches were this is the time to make those changes. The same can be said for any plumbing changes you might wish to make. It can take days, weeks, or months to repair fire damages to a house depending on how big it was. Once the real damage has been fixed, then you can think about what other improvements you might wish to make.

Whether you decide to make some changes or put everything back exactly like it was before the fire, the insurance coverage is crucial to the procedure. Make sure of what is covered under your home insurance policy. Be sure you have enough coverage to not only restore your home, but also replace any belongings inside the home that were lost as well. A fire in a home is a tragedy for sure, but the only thing that could make it worse is to not have adequate insurance coverage. Revise your home insurance policy from time to time to make sure your have enough coverage as you add new items or make improvements to your house.
