What is the dream life? Every person has a different answer for that question. Thats the important part. As long as you know what youre passionate about, you have an opportunity to make your dreams come true. You have to be persistent in asking yourself hard questions if you want to learn more about your true desires. Self-knowledge is a journey. It cant be completed overnight. If you havent figured out the steps you need to take to bring you closer to your dream, you might want to try the suggestions below.

1.List names of people who can help make your dreams come true. If your biggest dream is to open your own IT company, then investors are your best bet for your funding needs. If your goal is to open a restaurant that specializes in your moms secret recipe of slow cooked short ribs, then you better contact your mom for the recipe (if she will let you have it!). If your dream is to top the bar exam, zero-in on mentors who can help you prepare. Just keep in mind that not all of them may agree to help you right away, and a number of them may say no. Be persistent and patient no might just mean not now.

2.Practice asking for help. There is nothing wrong about asking for help, but in many cases, a lot of people get turned down because of the manner and choice of words they employed. Compare the two requests below and see which person you are most likely to help:

John: Im down to my last $50, maybe you can spare me a few hundred to help with my rent?

Versus

James: My paycheck didnt arrive and I need to make rent in two days. I was wondering if I could ask for a small loan from you so I can pay my landlady, and I promise to pay you the day I get my check.

Both requests are basically about the need to borrow money, but its the second guy whos more likely to receive help because of his courteous manner. So practice different scenarios where you think you will be asking help from others, and make sure to phrase your requests in the most polite and professional way. Good manners will go a long way in helping your dreams come true.

3.Think of your strategy. Pretend you just made all your dreams come true, then time-travel to the past (which technically is the present!). Use that reverse travel to plot the steps you need to take to achieve your goals. Simply put, its forecasting what you need to do, where to go and whom to contact to help you succeed.

4.Assess your current situation. Are your finances, domestic situation, education level, current work, and relationships solid enough to support your ambitions? For instance, your goal is to move from the suburbs to the city to be closer to the theaters where you plan on auditioning for one role after one until you get your big break. How will this impact your bank account? How will your family and friends take it? You cant be persistent in pursuing this great move if too many things will be negatively affected. Granted that you want to make your dreams come true, but you also need to be realistic about the timing of it all.

5.Get out of your comfort zone. If you want to make your dreams come true, then you better venture out of your cocoon and expand your horizons! Imagine how many dreams stayed as dreams because people were afraid to leave the comforts of their home, their small social circle and their boring but familiar jobs! Dont be like those people. Go on an adventure to discover what youre capable of doing; you just might surprise yourself along the way!
