Making Money As A Local Internet Marketing Consultant

By:

There are a lot of ways to run a great business that provides internet marketing services to its clients. However, many internet marketing consultants find that they can achieve more success by offering highly specialized services. This might mean that they offer all services with particular strength in one area, or that they only offer a single service to augment other internet marketing services a client might be utilizing. In either case, an area of emphasis can be a great way to build a reputation and to increase business. Working as a local internet marketing consultant can be a great way to do this. Many people don't realize that there is more to local search marketing than just using a local keyword tool. Providing clients with a focused, hands-on approach to improve their rankings in local search can be a great way to stir up business as an internet marketing consultant.

When you're trying to make money as an internet marketing consultant, one of the key areas of your business is going to be convincing people that they need your services. Obviously, you need to know what you're about. You're going to need to be able to produce real results that provide people value for their dollar, otherwise you will quickly go out of business. Assuming that you do know how to promote a site online though, you need to find ways to convince people that they need your services.

First, if you're focusing on local search, then you need to define who your clients are. Many choose to do this by starting with actual businesses with physical locations in their area. Local search is aimed more at people with actual physical storefronts, not so much those who only have an online presence.

You can drum up business for yourself in the usual ways. You can have a great website (that should be ranking well if you know your business), you can use social networking, and you can cold call local businesses. With all of these methods though, you must have information that you can provide to your potential clients that will help convert them into sales.

You should always try to promote your business in terms of the benefits that you can bring to the client, not just the features you offer or the skills you have. For instance, saying that you specialize in targeting local search clients is one thing, but telling prospective clients that you can actually help increase the traffic flow to their business is something more concrete. Looking at things from the clients point of view is an important part of marketing this type of business.

If you're just starting out in this line of work, you may want to take on some lower paying freelance jobs before you actually try to make it on your own as a business. That way, you can build some satisfied clients. You can point to these as examples of your success or use them as references. References and examples are both useful when it comes to gaining new clients.
