Making Mold Prevention A Priority

Making Mold Prevention A Priority

By:

The vast majority of people living in the United States lead very busy lives. Most people are so incredibly inundated with their responsibilities from school, work, family, and their other commitments that they do not have a lot of time to spare. Any spare time that they do have might be devoted to catching up with friends and family they have not seen for a while. In fact, people are so busy that you could literally see the stress on their faces as they hurry from one thing to the next. It is not uncommon to get cut off by some rude driver on the freeway because they were eager to get to their destination, not realizing that you are just as eager as he.

Naturally, with a very busy lifestyle other priorities are soon forgotten and put at the very bottom of the list. It is easy to forget to do things that you do not see right in front of your face. Your indoor plant that is growing in your kitchen will usually get the tender loving care that it needs because you see it every time you are in the room. Likewise, you will see your lawn that needs to be mowed every single time you walk out and into your home. Seeing the household chores that you need to do serves as a reminder, and having these things in the back of your mind will only force you to do them sooner or later.

One thing that is not always seen right away in a home and therefore is not checked on is mold. Mold growth is a problem that many homeowners, landlords, and business owners have had to deal with. It is a problem that comes as a result of having too much humidity or too much moisture in a room or in your whole house. It could also be the result of recent water damage caused by a hurricane flood, a broken pipe, or overflowing rivers. Mold needs food, warmth, and moisture and when the right conditions are present, mold can grow just about anywhere.

Luckily, doing visual mold inspections will not require a whole lot of time or know-how to accomplish the task. Inspecting for mold requires just a few minutes of your valuable time, and you can get it done in the morning time before leaving for work or during the weekend before heading off to a restaurant to meet up with some friends. Check the areas you see the most for discolorations of any kind, which could indicate internal water damage, and check behind furniture and other items that are blocking the wall, particularly in rooms that have higher levels of moisture, such as the bathroom, laundry room, garage, and utility room.

Alternatively, you can purchase home mold test kits at a local hardware store. Depending on which kind you buy, you will be able to test a mysterious substance growing on your walls, the very air that you are breathing, and the moisture content inside of your walls. To make the job even easier, you can skip the testing kits and the visual inspections and hire a mold remediation expert. A professional in this field will have the right equipment, tools, and knowledge to accurately evaluate your home for any mold growth that could be detrimental to your health and the well being of your home.
