Make Your Next Move With A Moving Van

By:

Moving usually involves hiring a moving company and having them move your things. But this isn't always the case. If you have the time and patience you can transport your own belongings by renting a moving van from a moving company in your area.

Renting a van is a way to save some money as well as provide a solution for people with only a small amount of belongings.

If you're moving out of a one or two-bedroom apartment, for example, you really don't need a moving truck. A simple van will probably be more than enough to move your belongings.
Plus, it will probably save you a lot of cash.

Here are a few guidelines to think about -- before the van arrives -- when loading up your belongings.

Bigger Is Better
You might be tempted to get small van; it's not a good idea. Most people usually have more things than they realize. Usually, you don't realize how much you own until you are boxing and moving your possessions. So, think size up, not down.

Make the task easier by transporting your larger belonging firsts. Things like TVs, tables, chairs, beds, sofas and couches should be stored in the van first.

This will allow you to assess how much room you have and if you will need to make multiple trips.

What Will You Need First?
If there is something that you will need to remove when you arrive at your new home, pack it last. It will be one of the first things you unpack and take into your new home.

Protect With Padding
No one wants broken belongings, and covering them up is one way to make sure they remain safe and secure. Remember that you will be driving the van and its possible that your belongings will move around while you are transporting them.

To prevent any dings, scratches or cracks, use towels, blankets, pillows and other soft items as a source for padding.

Your fragile items will thank you for it.

Box It Up
All of your smaller items should be placed in boxes if possible. This will keep them safe and secure as well as making the van more organized so you can pack more things. Remember that you can use old newspaper and dish rags as a way to protect breakables stored in boxes.

Packing up your van carefully will insure that your things will stay as safe and sound as possible.
