Make Your Bathroom A Functional And Appealing Space

By:

The bathroom is a highly functional space of the house. No wonder it's not always included in the list of rooms in need of adornment. Isn't it nice though to have a functional AND an attractive space at the same time? Decorating the bathroom can be complicated in that there are numerous factors to consider - budget as bathroom fixtures can be costly, the theme, which is not as commonplace as with the other rooms, and the main function of your bathroom. However complex, it's not impossible and with some guidelines, this task can actually be less of a hassle.

Before setting out a decorating project, consider major points to help you with estimating costs. For instance, do you want a major overhaul? Do you want to paint the bathroom walls or change the flooring? What items do you need to replace and add?

I've decided not to do a complete renovation. As I so proudly mentioned, I don't have much of a budget. I'll spend for cleaning products so I can do a general bathroom cleaning instead of changing the flooring and painting the entire space. I will however repaint the closet and cabinets. I will change too the mirrors and some drawers plus the handles. I will purchase new towels, linens and shower curtains to go with the new paint. Also, I will add an accent of color and pattern to the bathroom walls, especially in the shower stall for a new look. The bathroom is having a makeover lest we forget. It deserves a touch of "makeup."

Having a bigger budget of course will make the planning and shopping much easier. Remember though that not all expensive items are great finds. Saving is still practical and buying items for a lot less will give you more chances of buying other things you want.

As far as bathroom themes go, there are many to choose from. Seaside themes tend to be a favorite for bathrooms. These bathrooms are calm and serene, filled with colors of the sea. Bottles of sand or seashells lying on shelves and a seaside themed area rug add a lovely touch. If the seaside is not for you, you may want to try using solid colors. Solid colors look fantastic in bathrooms. You can always add some of your favorite artwork to make the bathroom look even more personal.

I'm decorating my bathroom, for my own use. If you however are decorating a family bathroom, you should consider the preferences of your family before deciding on the decorating elements. Perhaps one member hates blue and the other is sick of seeing bamboo materials or what. Best option is to go neutral with the colors and design so as to be fair for everybody. A very important thing is to have enough storage for all your things.

Bathroom decorating is an investment. Unlike other parts of the house, bathroom can stay as it is for a long time. As long as it is clean, you can do with the same design for years to come.
