Make More Money By Upselling

Let's dissect the sales formula. You might not be using your shopping cart to its full potential. If you check out some of the distinguished businesses out there like Buy.com, BestBuy.Com, or Frys.Com, you'll discover that when you check-out a product from these stores, you dawdle along range of questions within the shopping cart. As a shopper, you are trying to get to the final check out page. They'll send you through a collection of sub-screens where you answer "no" to the goods they are trying to push to you. Eventually, you get to confirm your order.

These questions aren't placed there to annoy you; they are placed there because businesses have spent countless hours evaluating these strategies to make more money. As a merchant, you should be evaluating this as well. This is called upselling, and you can apply it to your business as well. Perhaps you can offer a digital version of your product at a cheaper rate and upsell the same product but in hard copy format. You can program your shopping cart to list the goods you sell so your customers will want to upgrade their package, they can do so immediately. Take note, a lot of people like hard copy goods so it's a good idea to give them that option.

After they've completed submitting their order, on the "Thank You" page, you can advertise to them. The majority of small businesses tend to put up a simple "Thank You" page. This is bad judgment on their part! This is another wonderful opportunity for you to upsell and advertise to your customers. To accomplish an effective upsell, you should offer products that are of interest to them and relates to your product. Why bother upselling them if they have already confirmed their order? Because they've already entered their credit card information into your shopping cart. An even better upsell tactic is to program your shopping cart to fill out their information automatically if they decide to purchase your upsell product. What I described above is the upsell tactic in its primary form. There are many creative ways to utilize the upsell tactic.

I have found that Joint Venture Partners work pretty well for an upsell. But don't sign up for just any Joint Venture Partnership, you want to get the ones where they pay you per lead or opt-in. On the "Thank You" page, you can make the offer even more interesting by saying something like, "we've negotiated a special rate for you to get a subscription for the next 6 weeks with Company XYZ." It doesn't matter whether or not it's an online eZine or a printed magazine. Joint venture partnerships are great because you are sending them customers who are already interested in their particular market. And, some partnerships pay a pretty good sum for each lead. I have tested this and I can tell you that it works. Implement this idea and start testing to see what works for your online business. It would be unwise not to take advantage of this idea. Don't let this one go down the drain.
