Make Money Working Online In The Web 2.0 Age

By:

Discovering how to make money working online is something that more and more people are now prioritising. This economic 'perfect storm' has made us realise how little we can rely on job or even pension incomes. So it's understandable if people wonder what on earth those 'timewasting', 'kiddie' sites like Facebook and MySpace got to do with finding out how to make money working online!

You may be surprised to learn that whatever you think of Web 2.0 or 'Social Media', these rapidly growing communities offer a vast marketing opportunity for those willing to learn and abide by the 'rules of engagement'.

First, of course, you need an online business. Your desire to make money working online may revolve around monetising your hobby. Some people have made fortunes doing this. You need of course to have a 'niche' which has decent search demand, ie perhaps 10,000 or so searches per month. Sites like Wordtracker, Good Keywords or Digital Point will all give you this information for free or for very little.

You'll then need to put up a website, either with a simple web editor like Frontpage 2003, or a complete web-building package like Sitesell's 'SiteBuildIt!', which literally does everything for you bar writing the content. Either way you will have to learn some new skills, but for the potential rewards available that's a very small price.

What you'll also really benefit from if you seriously want to make money working online is to build a simple 'squeeze' or 'capture page' where you offer some free quality content, like a report or mini-course, in exchange for your visitors' e-mail details. You can then build a list of subscribers whom you can keep in touch with via a good autoresponder like AWeber, Getresponse or 1ShoppingCart.

You can then send offers of affiliate programs you may have joined from your 'niche', so you'll be promoting to a market of people who have said yes to your communications and yes to an interest in your niche.

Clickbank is the best place to locate digital or information products. These often offer 50% to 75% commission as there's no physical product requiring postage and packing. For 'hard' products, Commission Junction is probably the best respected. Let's face it, how could you possibly fail to make money working online marketing to pre-qualified subscribers rather than cold prospects?

This is where Web 2.0 has blown the lid off your marketing potential. By joining communities like Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn, Facebook and many others, you can zone in on people with similar interests by sharing free quality content, entertaining and/or uplifting and attract the right kind of people in huge quantities.

The big 'no no' is spamming people with your business opportunity, whether it be your hobby-related themed site or one of the 400 or so Multi-level marketing opportunities around. These in particular get spammed all over Social Media and it's totally counter-productive. It's another thing that puts people off what can be an excellent business model.

Contributing to Web 2.0 communities as well as providing content to Social Media Content sites like Squidoo, Hubpages and Scribd, will give you a Web 2.0 edge over people who have shunned Web 2.0 as a 'recreation only' phenomenon. But then making money working online is all about finding an edge. I hope you find yours. Don't forget:-
