Before you hire an individual maid service, you must enquire about whether the person is eligible to work in the United States or not and should file the Form I-9 which is Employment Eligibility Verification. Also, get an employer identification number and if possible, a state number. These are some of the requirements that you must fulfill if you pay your household employee more than $1,400.

Besides, there are some other conditions to be followed when you pay your household employee. You must withhold 7.65% of the amount for Medicare taxes and social security. Plus, you also need to withhold state tax and federal income tax as well apart from filing for state and federal unemployment returns.

Some other requirements that you need to fulfill include filing of Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement and giving it to your employee. Plus, review all the insurance requirements with your insurance agent.
