Lpn Refresher Course Requirements For Nurses

By:

The LPN refresher course is geared toward the LPN whose license is inactive, or lapsed. If a nurse does not work in their area of profession within a certain length of time, their license becomes un-usable. There are schools that will help the LPN regain the use of their license by completing a refresher course. The course consists of a variety of requirements that the LPN must complete, before their license is eligible for re-instatement. Depending on what state the license was issued in reinstatement requirements may differ. It is important to remember that there is more than one way to renew the LPN license. Students can take online or they can pursue the traditional classroom setting. Classroom setting is not for everyone, neither are online courses. The student must choose what is best for them. Some LPNs have not set foot in a classroom, and may feel a bit uneasy.

Before the LPN can begin the learning process, there are a few prerequisites that the candidate must complete. If the student is taking the LPN refresher course online they must confirm their registration application, they must send proof of their graduation certificate (showing proof of their LPN program completion) date. They must verify their state of residence, and their identity. They must also verify the status of their license. Verification, as to whether they hold active license, or limited educational license, is also a requirement. Once the student has completed the verification process, they will receive a password where they can login to the system and begin the refresher course.

The online theory course takes about nine months to complete. This course allows an extension of 90 days, providing that the student notify the proper department, prior to entering the course. The theory part of the assessment has 16 modules. The student must pass the final exam with a C or better. This course completion time is 120 hours long. Students must also complete 120 hours of clinical practice. Clinical practice includes a TB skin test, current CPR, satisfactory background check, proof of professional liability insurance, and other program requirements.

After the student completes the online part of their LPN refresher course, they are ready for the final step. All paperwork must be in order. They must submit verification forms to the Nursing Board for license re-activation. The student must submit a copy of their certificate of completion, along with others required documents.
