To those people who are unfamiliar with refried beans, they are simply one of the basic foundation in a Mexican dish. It is not common to find any Mexican kitchen without these loved beans. Although these beans are renowned, it likewise is noted for being unhealthy - laden with overloaded cheese and cheap oils as well as heavy lard that will not be good for any Mexican food lover. Even so, there are means one can enjoy refried beans without taking in the harmful side of it, here are some guidelines on how to accomplish that.

1. Get two cups of dry pinto beans and spread them out on your table or kitchen counter and examine them, looking for any misshapen beans or rocks that may have slipped inside the package. Although ridiculous it isnt uncommon for rocks to get into grocery store bean bags.

2. Wash your beans using cold water and add to a large pot container eight cups of cold water plus a bay leaf. Cover the pot and turn on the burner at a high level.

3. Observe the beans until the water starts to boil. Turn the fire lower a touch but keep it sufficiently high so you still have a slow boil. Let the beans to boil for two hours, gradually placing small quantities of water as it boils away and is absorbed by the beans. Ideally you will need at least two inches of water covering the beans.

4. After two hours, find out if the beans have become soft and dark in comparison to the way they were previously. In that case, add three fourths cup of vegetable oil, one whole bulb of peeled and minced garlic, two teaspoons of salt and one well chopped tomato. If your beans are still a little tough, boil for an additional 20-30 minutes.

5. Bring your bean pot to a simmer with the ingredients. Mix often over the next hour to hour and a half as the beans take in all of the flavors and oil. Be sure you keep the beans from sticking to the bottom or sides of the pan as the water and oil is absorbed.

6. Once all the liquid is drained away and the beans are on the verge of sticking together, remove from heat and fish out the bay leaf. Get a potato masher and begin to mash the beans into a paste.

7. Serve and enjoy as youve just prepared a traditional Mexican side order.

Although it is incredible especially when topped with cheese, the beans should work fine on its own. You can even add a little bit of some flavor and use pico de gallo for some excitement.
