Love, Patience And Wedding Jewelry

Our relationship started out pretty rocky. After a couple of months we took a break because we were graduating from college. Since we both stayed in the city afterwards, it was only a matter of time before we decided to get coffee and she told me she still loved me. I had hoped it would be that way, and we came back together happier than ever. This went on for about a bit longer than a year.

Poor girl, she was riddled with insecurities. A former ballerina, her image problems and lack of confidence in how to act in the real world plagued her, and consequently, our relationship suffered. We managed to have fun. We were happiest when I led her into new restaurants and neighborhoods and other adventures. I bought her earrings and discount pearls for her birthday and Valentine's Day, but I was poor, so I couldn't spend prodigally on the expensive Bordeaux and filet mignon she deserved.

But because we were still only twenty three, we had decisions to make. Life decisions based on what we needed for ourselves. And it became overwhelming - for both of us. We split, agreeing to remain friends, knowing we wouldn't be. After a few months of trying to forget, to swallow that love and the memories of waking on Saturday with the crisp November sunlight streaming in the window, and omelets and Rimbaud's poetry, we wound up chatting online. Simple stuff, catch-up, really. Deep down we both knew that it would still be time before we could be together, that we were still growing.

Another six months passed. I saw other women but it was all dust and ashes. One day we ran into each other on the street and went for a drink. When the fates deliver you a situation, sometimes you have to take full advantage. We wound up kissing when we parted, and it was not a peck on the cheek. It had all of the restraint that more than a year and a half apart could bear. We made plans to see each other again soon. We fell back into consistent dating, and confessed to each other that we had never stopped loving, couldn't , couldn't be without each other and be happy.

So now, as I sit browsing womens diamond rings, for the right one to adorn my young fiancee's finger, I impart these final words to the young and hopeful: love is patience.
