Lose Weight While You Sleep: A New Weight Loss

By: Charles Volcolatte

Everyone knows that to lose weight there are basically two options - strenuous exercise and health-threatening weight loss supplements. For some people neither one is appealing and the question they may be asking is, "Is there any other alternatives besides these two?"

Interestingly, there is a study which concluded that it is possible to lose weight while sleeping! In fact it is an option which we can all turn to.

According to the study, when regular sleeping hours are maintained, it can help in the prevention of weight gain and obesity. More significantly, the research indicates that getting more sleep is an important step in the maintenance of a healthy body weight.

More in-depth research shows that this phenomenon is caused by the fact that lack of sleep results in the release of a hormone that triggers frequent feelings of hunger. Not getting enough sleep puts a strain on the fat and stomach cells. When this happens, the fat cells are not able to release sufficient amounts of the leptin, a hormone which creates a feeling of fullness. A low leptin count in turn results in the release of ghrelin, a hormone which causes hunger which leads to overeating. Apart from this, lack of sleep drains us of energy which is another reason why we have the tendency to eat more than we should.

The question now is how many hours of sleep should we get. Ideally, we need at least 8 hours of sleep a day. However, there is an ongoing debate as to whether this applies to all. The truth is that each individual has a different response to a given length of sleeping time. The best way to deal with this issue is to find out for ourselves how much sleep we need daily in order for our bodies to get the full rest that it needs.

People suffering from chronic health problems or those who are just basically unhealthy can do something to improve their health and become more active. One way in which this can be achieved is by getting a restful sleep during nighttime. This is the way nature intended it in the first place. As you sleep at night your system and its component organs experience full-blast relaxation. Another important recommendation from experts is to eat a nourishing meal before sleeping to avoid stressing the digestive tract as well as the brain.

Insomniacs will first have to deal with the problem of not being able to sleep before they can even consider this weight loss option. If you are suffering from this sleep disorder, it is important that you seek medical assistance in dealing with this problem. Keep in mind that the use of nutritional supplements or sleeping pills are not recommended unless done with medical supervision.
