London Olympics 2012 - Fair Pricing Charter

London Olympics 2012 - Fair Pricing Charter

By:

London 2012 is expected to bring 2.4 billion pounds in benefits to the UK tourism industry half of that through business tourism. The event will be held in parks, sports venues and exhibition spaces across the whole of London throughout the summer. Amongst these venues is Lord's Cricket Ground, the ExCel Centre, Regent's Park, Wembley Stadium, Wimbledon, Hyde Park, Earls Court and Horse Guards Parade. Many of these venues are regularly used by Londoners and locals will be affected by the rise in tourism over the Olympic period.

To ensure the benefits reach everyone, one company has invited event suppliers to sign a Fair Pricing and Practise Charter, pledging that their prices ahead of and during around London 2012 will be fair and reasonable

The Fair Pricing and Practise Charter

The Fair Pricing and Practise Charter is a voluntary code of practise produced in partnership with events industry trade and marketing bodies, stakeholders and relevant delivery agencies.

It was produced to make the most of business opportunities created by London 2012 and respond to some challenges raised by:

* Tackling negative perceptions of the cost and logistical issues of holding an event, particularly in London
* Promoting the skills, creativity and expertise of London industries to the rest of the world
* Presenting a unified approach to ensure all business events taking place in the lead up to and during the 2012 Olympics reflect the values and goals of the stakeholders

The Fair Pricing and Practise Charter is the first initiative of its kind to be tied in with the Olympic
Games on a national basis.

A business forum for London 2012

The Fair Pricing and Practise Charter will be championed by an industry working group with the support of Visit London and VisitBritain.

To encourage industry participation, plans are also under way to set up forums to increase communication and provide opportunities for members to share knowledge.

Another, even greater, benefit for signatories of the charter is that they will be promoted to organisers seeking venues and suppliers through Visit London's enquiry service and Visit Britain's network of overseas offices.

Who has signed up?

Hundreds of companies, venues, suppliers and producers have already signed the Fair Pricing and Practise Charter since it was launched in 2008.

Current signatories range from catering companies and technical crews, plus many top London venues and accommodation providers, including:

* The Museum of London
* Alexandra Palace
* Lord's Cricket Ground
* London Transport Museum
* Royal Opera House
* The Arsenal Football Club
* Barbican Centre
