Logan And Cache Valley, Utah: Things To Do

By:

If you are planning on visiting or moving to Cache Valley Utah soon, lucky you! It's one of the most beautiful areas in the intermountain west and Logan is considered to be the loveliest city in the state. Here is a little more about the happenings going on in Northern Utah all year round.

-- Bear Lake State Park

This beautiful mountain lake is arguably the prettiest in the state: it probably got this reputation because it is the only one with turquoise-colored waters and white sandy beaches. People drive up here from Salt Lake on weekends to enjoy the sunshine and participate in all kinds of water sports such boating, jet skiing, sailing, and swimming. Fishing is popular here as well and local anglers catch cutthroat trout, mackinaw, and whitefish. Scuba divers can do their open water certification here as well since the waters are nice and clear. There are plenty of rental places located around the lake if you are visiting from out of town.

-- Utah Festival Opera

Nature's wonders are not the only things to impress and amaze in Cache Valley. For years, the Utah Festival Opera Company has brought four musical productions to the Dansante building in historic Logan's main drag every summer. World renowned professional musicians travel from all over to participate in this unique festival, and offerings include Grand Operas, operettas, and classic musical theater. The revolving repertory format makes it possible to see all four shows within three or four days, and the scenery, costumes, and amazing performances make you forget you are in a small town.

-- American West Heritage Center

If you are visiting from somewhere else, find out more about 100 years of traditional western living at this unique living history site located along scenic Route 89. Activities include participating in a pioneer trek reenactment, panning for gold, visiting mountain man encampments, and much more. The Heritage Center is only open during the summer months, although it holds special events all year long.

-- Hardware Ranch & Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge

Northern Utah is famous for its plentitude of wildlife. At the Hardware Ranch, visitors can take a winter time sleigh ride on the property to view the 600 elk that reside there during the cold months. The Bird Refuge boasts over 74,000 acres of marshlands and other habitats that attract water birds from miles around. The Great Sale Lake is home to 55,000 white pelicans, and these birds are fed on-site daily.
