Local Seo Basics - 5 Key Points

By:

Create these five things before beginning your local SEO campaign:

1. Your Keyword List
2. A Web Site
3. A Facebook Page
4. Your Twitter Account
5. Google Places

A Keyword List

First, create your keyword list. We use two approaches with Daytona Beach SEO sites. The first approach is to list out everything that you know your customers want and ask you about. The second approach is to go to the Google Keyword Tool and type each of those keywords into the tool. Do it one at a time. You'll be looking for terms that you missed and checking for search volume on your keywords.

When you have the list, you'll then create 3-4 categories. The categories you select should show traffic in the keyword tool, but also reflect what you do in your business. Under each of the categories, place 3-5 other relevant keywords. These will be the initial pages for the categories.

Your website

We don't have enough time to go into how to create a website, but we do want to stress using the keyword categoires and relevant keywords to create your site configuration. You or your writer will need to create between 15-30 pages of content. You will also need a contact page, about page and a privacy page.

Your website is your main online asset. You use it to sell and promote your products and tell the world about your business. Never forget though, that to be effective you need to provide content that's useful to your customers and visitors.

Add a blog to your website to talk about your business and special offers and to link to the other pages you create.

A Facebook Page

Go to Facebook and set up a page for your business. This page is entirely separate from you personal page. On this page, you are going to create content that engages visitors and encourages them to vote for your page by clicking the "Like" button.

Facebook Pages are about engagement. The level of engagement will be different for different businesses. Some businesses that offer daily specials, coupons and so on are ideally suited for Facebook. Other businesses will struggle to come up with fresh offers and content.

If you're not willing to engage with people, your Facebook Page will not be worth as much.

Your Twitter Account

Set up your Twitter Account and then tweet every thing you do with your business. Tweet about new pages and post. We are seeing increasing evidence that tweets add value to a page. As your followers grow and they retweet your posts, your pages will gain more favor with Google and the other search engines.

Get Listing in Google Places

Every small business should claim their Google Places listing. It is the fastest way to get on to the first page of Google.

Summary

These five properties are the basics of local SEO. Later, you can write articles with links to promote your pages. You may want to set up Hub Pages and Squidoo Lenses to attract traffic and send links to a Facebook Page and web site. In small business SEO, first create good content and then get your website created and running. Then you can promote the site to gain rank in the search engines and good traffic.
