Liverpools main railway station, Lime Street, is the terminus of a branch off the west coast main railway line, as well as the major hub of an extensive local rail network which serves the city, its suburbs and the surrounding towns.

John Lennon International Airport, seven and a half miles south-east of the city centre, has in recent years been one of Europes fastest-growing airports, and the 10th busiest in the UK. A long-term plan is in place which will see it expand considerably by the year 2030.
