Little Details Before You Move.

Little Details Before You Move.

By:

Everything is packed up and youre ready to move great. But have you moved with your bank or building society yet? What about your doctor? It may seem like a daunting task, but getting all those nitty-gritty details sorted out early will be well worth it.
1.Gather together all your correspondence from gas companies, your GP, your bank and so on. Try to list every one which has your old address and go through them one by one, ringing them to change details. Try to do this about two weeks in advance or sooner if you are able to conduct the move over a weekend. Here are some examples of who youll need to contact
Banking, credit, and investment companies
Household utilities and home energy suppliers.
Postal services
Home insurance cover
2.Check whether your current utility provider covers your new address and costs such as water bills and gas prices.
3.Report your change of address to the relevant government services, and check local authority provision in your new place of residence.
4.Prepare early. Advice or articles on moving house place a lot of emphasis on this point, and with good reason. Dont get stressed about your move but dont get complacent either. The longer you put off one of these tasks, the more you will have to deal with on the day.

5.Removal firms can take a lot of the strain out of moving, but try to contact them as early as possible, and find a trustworthy company to move with. Most firms offer the best rates for early reservations. Get in touch with your removal firm regarding any extra fees which might emerge at the last moment as some companies charge extra for some items such as packing materials, so check whether this is the case first.

6.You can see this as an opportunity to make a little extra money out of your move too while packing take out any items you havent used in the past six months. Be ruthless. If you think youre not going to use it, take it to the local car boot sale and sell it. Another way to scale down your packing is to offer items to a local charity shop, or to offer them to friends maybe even get together and organize a swap meet.

7.Timing is everything, so check and ask when you will be allowed to take charge of your new property. If you have advance notice of the move in date, you will have the time to plan, prepare and get all those little details sorted before you move.
