List-building Tactics Every Marketer Should Use

By:

"The money is in the list." If you've studied or taken part in Internet marketing for any time at all, you've likely seen this phrase several times over. But just exactly how do you go about building a list?

Write articles and submit them to article directories. Article marketing is a sure way to get targeted traffic to your site. For one thing, you get keyword-targeted backlinks to your main site. But you also get the chance to rank in the top page of Google with your article, using the directory as a ranking platform.

If you are specifically doing it for list-building, then the link in your author bio should lead straight to your opt-in page. Anyone who clicked your link has already demonstrated a desire to know more of what you can tell them, so sending them to this page in not inappropriate at all.

Blog! Blogging is another good way to get attention. It's also a good place for you to show off the value you'll give to your potential readers and entice them to join your list.

You can also use an RSS feed to turn a blog into a list of its own. Most blogging software makes it easy to add a "subscribe now" button. Services like Feedburner add free analytics to your list. They also give you the power to do things like easily add contextual advertising, which can be difficult to do on your own.

Joint ventures with other marketers. It's time to stop thinking of other marketers in your niche solely as competitors. They can also be potential partners, and powerful ones at that.

A list swap is a mutually beneficial way for both parties to grow their lists. The marketer with the smaller list advertises the larger list to his or her readers. In return, the marketer with the larger group, advertises to as many of his or her own readers as are in the smaller list. This helps out both partners and can be a real boon to the beginner.

How do you initiate a joint venture? If you've done your research properly, you should already be on the list of a few potential partners. Write each one individually, tell him or her what you have learned from that list, and suggest a list swap.

You can also find potential partners at Internet marketing forums like Digital Point and Warrior Forum as well. Warrior Forum even has a joint venture sub-forum that is good for this.

Give things away for free. This is pretty much standard practice with any list these days. If you want people to hand over their email addresses, you've got to provide something in exchange!

The most popular way to do this is to provide a free niche report. This works well for marketing information products but can work for other types of products as well.

Other enticements to join your list include downloadable coupons for consumer goods, inexpensive software, and a short video or email course about your niche topic.
