List building is the cornerstone of a profitable internet marketing business. In this article we will cover building a list using a FREE Report as the incentive for the opt in. The basic premise is that you provide some incentive for a targeted group to opt in to your email list.

You then email your opt in list, gradually developing trust and rapport through a drip marketing campaign and move your list through your sales funnel. You want to be respectful of those who have signed up for your list by always providing real value in your emails. Dont be branded as a marketer that leads others down a path to nowhere, only to waste their time.

It is a proven list building strategy that by offering something for FREE that is of real value you will attract more people to sign up for your list. Jello is the first pioneer for this marketing concept. They gave away a bunch of Jello recipe books throughout regions. Guess what you needed to use the recipe book? If you guessed Jello, youre right.

Do you recall Gillette with the FREE razor, which was a really nice razor? You then needed some blades to make use of that really nice razor. Of course you bought the blades for $10, right? So did I.

You build credibility and trust by giving first. People also want to sample the quality before spending their money and this is one of the ways of providing that sample. It reduces their risk.

You can write and offer a free report or other incentive which can be a sample of your back end product that is delivered when they opt in. You could charge for this product but the real opportunity is on the back end. I recommend giving away a good front end product to start. Either give the front end product away or offer it at a very, very low price. I know marketers who gladly lose money on their front end product because they know what they can expect to make on their back end. This is exactly what Jello and Gillette did.

Once you start your list you can begin to provide continual relevant information to your list. The information you send should provide real value and should solve a problem you target market is dealing with. It is crucial to your success that you always provide quality content in everything you do.

A good drip system is to send the first email out instantly. The followup email goes out in 4 days and another email every 7 days.

List building is the foundation of an internet marketers business. It pays to take the time to really think it through about your niche and what will work best for that market. While a free report may be the best thing to use in one niche, it might not work at all in another. There will, however, always be a front end product that makes sense.
