Lincoln Earns Title Of Most Dependable

By:

Lincoln has striven to promote the image of long-term durability and dependability since their struggles the past few years; and their rankings on the 2011 dependability study prove that they are accomplishing their goals. On J.D. Power and Associates annual list of the most reliable brand sin the auto industry- Lincoln ranked number one.

J.D. Power and Associates study measures the problems experienced by the original owners of vehicles in the last year that are three years old; in this study 2008 models were used. The rankings are based on the number of problems per 100 vehicles, the lower the score the better the ranking. Owners of three-year old vehicles complete a survey that asks them to choose from a list of 200 problems they have experienced with their vehicle in the last year. The score is then calculated based on power train dependability, body and interior dependability, feature and accessory dependability and overall dependability. Lincoln ranked number one in three of the four categories- all except for body and interior dependability.

Power train dependability is based on problems with the engine or transmission as well as any problems that affect the driving experience. Body and interior dependability is scored according to problems with wind noise, water leaks, poor interior fit or finish, paint imperfection, and squeaks or rattles. The ranking for feature and accessory dependability is based on problems with the seats, windshield wipers, navigation system, rear-seat entertainment system, heater or air conditioner, stereo system, sunroof and trip computer. All of these factors play a big role in the long-term durability of any vehicle; and Lincolns success at scoring high marks in all of these categories says something for the brand.

The industry average of dependability on this years study was 151 problems per 100 cars. Lincolns ranking was well above the industry average at 101 problems per 100 cars. The second highest ranking brand was Lexus with a score of 109 problems per 100 vehicles.

Lincoln also had two models that were the highest ranking vehicles for dependability in their respective categories. The LINCOLN MKZ was the highest ranking vehicle in the segment Entry Premium car and was also the second-highest performing model in long-term dependability in the entire study. The LINCOLN Navigator was also the highest ranked vehicle in its segment of Large Premium Crossover/SUVs. In order to be awarded a spot in each segment the vehicle had to have a dependability score above the segment average.

This award is another great testament to Lincoln. Long-term durability is the perfect foundation upon which to build the resurgence of the Lincoln brand; according to the director of Lincoln Product Development. Lincoln is built on durability and dependability and this study proves that. Being the most reliable vehicles in the industry says something of Lincoln and its parent company the Ford Motor Company. The results of this study affirm that Lincoln and Fords quality operating system is the best in the world- Lincoln products are not only the best in low times of service- but also in high times of service.
