"Life Express" is a film based on the dilemmas faced by two women from two different strata of society. The film is a passionate and heart rendering story of two couples in divergent situations. Tanvi (Rituparna Sengupta) and Nikhil (Kiran Janjani) are an urban couple. But in their fast-paced lives and in pursuit of power and wealth they have no time to spend with each other or start a family. Yet Tanvi longs for motherhood. The film also has a parallel story of a rural couple, Gouri (Divya Dutta) and Mohan (Yashpal Sharma), who live a life far from the din and bustle of the city. They are ridden by poverty and face day to day challenges for sustenance.
The film deals with motherhood, love, aspirations and the priorities individuals make in their lives. The film also talks of major issues, solutions and trading of human emotions for personal benefits. This film also throws light on various facets of life in the real sense of the emotions of love, hatred, relationships, responsibilities, defiance and greed. Will Tanvi and Gouri achieve what they strive for? Or will the desire for materialistic needs overshadow even the greatest gift of motherhood?
This issue based film deals with the concept of surrogate motherhood, a subject which has not been dealt with much in Hindi films. It sheds light on those mothers who have always remain in the dilemma of the cross road between materialistic aspirations and motherhood.
The film is director Anup Das"s debut film in Hindi. He was earlier assistant to famed director Raja Sen of the Bengali film industry. Anup conducted an extensive research before he chose this subject as the theme for his film. In his debut film, director Anup Das has very meticulously mirrored the harsh reality of life and objectively tried to show the choices individuals need to make in life. Life Express is the first feather in the cap for producer Sanjay Kalate and his venture Sky Motion Pictures Pvt. Ltd. This movie will showcase some of the finest performances by actress Rituparna Sengupta, Divya Dutta, Kiran Janjani, Yashpal Sharma, Alok Nath, Nandita Puri etc. The music director of the film is Roop Kumar Rathod and lyrics are written by Shakheel Azmi.
The viewers might recollect another film on the same subject of surrogate motherhood- "Filhaal" - made by Meghna Gulzar in 2001. The film which was Meghna Gulzar"s debut film had Tabu, Sushmita Sen, Sanjay Suri and Palash Sen in the lead roles.
