The Optimus Black is one of the latest smartphones to be released into LG's fantastic Optimus range of Android smartphones. Despite initial rumours that the Optimus Black would be dual core it in fact runs on a single core 1GHz CPU. This offers excellent speed regardless and this doesn't detract in any way from the phone's appeal. The two main things that make the Black so appealing are its gorgeous screen and its exceptional slimness.

Apple made a big deal about their iPhone 4 being the slimmest phone on the market although this I no longer true with the Optimus Black making an appearance. Although only 0.1mm thinner the Optimus Black is a welcome change for the increasingly bulky smartphones that are doing the rounds, and makes it one of the most pocketable touchscreen handsets on the market.

The Black is also noticeable for its IPS LCD screen that features LG's new NOVA technology. This screen technology is the brightest that is currently available on any smartphone and offers over 700 nits of brightness. The Optimus Black runs on Android Froyo and is updatable to the Android Gingerbread, and also comes combined with LG's Optimus interface that has some excellent social networking support for Facebook and the like.

The Optimus Black comes with some great 3G and Wi-Fi connections making it a great phone for enjoying all sorts of online activities. Wi-Fi also comes with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct support making the Black one of the best wireless devices on the phone market. The Optimus Black is excellent for general web browsing with web pages being displayed in all their glory thanks to the NOVA display, as well as supporting YouTube and Adobe Flash content for added online fun.

The Black also features some great offline entertainment features too, including good music and video support, many games and apps available from Android Market, and a stereo FM radio. The Black has 2GB internal storage and can provide an additional 32GB through microSD cards for all your personal content.

The Black also comes with a great 5 megapixel camera that includes an LED flash, geo-tagging and 720p video recording. With Facebook and Picasa integration you can easily upload images and videos to share online. The Black also comes with a 2 megapixel front facing camera that you can use for video calling and this is one of the highest resolution front facing cameras found on any smartphone.

Although the fact that the Black's rumoured dual core status turned out to be untrue may be a disappointment for some people it shouldn't in anyway detract from this excellent smartphone. The 1GHz CPU in use still provides phenomenal speed and the Black is arguably a more desirable phone than its dual core Optimus 2X cousin. The highlight of this smartphone is that it comes with excellent connectivity and online options and features one of the most gorgeous screens found on a smartphone. All the while being one of the slimmest and most feature filled phones around.
