Lexus Put The Lf-a To The Ultimate Test At The Nurburgring

By:

The Japanese car giant Lexus, put its money where its mouth was as it set to prove to the world exactly why it thinks that its new LF-A sports car is such a contender in the supercar market when it entered two versions of the highly anticipated car into one of the toughest and most highly demanding races, the 24 hours of Nurburgring.

It is a tall boast indeed by Lexus and clearly shows their intent and drive behind their new project that they are so incessantly confident as to place it in a demanding high profile sports event like the 24 hours of the demanding, car killing circuit of Nurburg.

If the race was won on looks then the Lexus LF-A would already have been a winner, the race version of the car previewed to journalist back in May was nothing short of stunning, with sleek, sexy line running from the front bumper to the rear spoiler. Due to the success of the race the company has now decided to move the car into full scale production with a release date in late 2010 and I'm pleased to report that the initial prototype of the road going version is nothing short of sensational.

In a world where every car is starting to look the same, it is nice to see a manufacturer like Lexus who has taken a bold step into a new market and come out with something original. Certain critics of the car have made the comment that the front of the car is similar in design to that of the Nissan GTR which has already been released. However, with Nissan being another Japanese car manufacturer it is likely that the designers took inspiration from the designs that they had seen.

Unfortunately the LF-A didn't perform quite as well as the company was hoping with the car catching fire during the event in front of the mass crowd and causing some embarrassment as it was towed away by a Volkswagen car.

Lexus didn't need to take the bold step in the current climate, they didn't need to take an unnecessary risks when it comes to production and it speaks volumes about the company that they have that much confidence in the car that they are prepared to take such a chance, when clearly it is one area that the company has failed to perform in the past.

Personally I think good luck to them, maybe the car industry would be a better place if more companies were prepared to put their money where their mouths are and more concept cars were produced.
