Leopoldskron Castle In Salzburg

This is the old marketplace of Salzburg, where for hundreds of years everything was sold, ranging from vegetables, fabrics, pies, donkeys to miracle cure-alls. This is where the people of the town would meet to exchange gossip and pick up a bargain. This square remains famous to this day.

The environment of this square recalls a bygone era, with its 17th century homes and buildings. Today this popular sector is noted for its fabulous dining and cafs full of delicious pastries and coffees. In the middle of the market theres a beautiful fountain, its design is that out of the Renaissance. This square is surrounded by famous cafes such as Cafe Tomaselli which on its own is worth booking a trip to Salzburg.

Appropriately named Alter market which means Old market, is crossed on your way to the Mozart Square. The Alter market is surrounded with souvenir stores and is mostly busy. Also in the surrounding area it is important to mention that while most people never notice it, the smallest house of Salzburg is also situated here.

Also found in the Alter market are Mozartkugels!, the pistachio, marzipan and nougat core is coated in milk chocolate and until today handmade in the Konditorei Frst. Its name is derived from Salzburgs most famous son, Mozart. Much cheaper and almost as tasty as numerous other brands of Mozartkugels, it is recommended to try them at the Alter market. To enjoy the delights of the Alter market and the surrounding areas of Salzburg it is recommended to plan your trip in advance and to either book appartementen Salzburg or hotel Salzburg. Also at the Alter market, you can easily spend an afternoon here reading the latest newspapers (including the International Herald Tribune) and sipping your delicious Viennese coffee. The houses in the Alter market are furthermore lined with 17th century middle class houses, colorfully hued in shades of pink, pale blue and yellow ocher. Look in at the old royal pharmacy, the Hofapotheke, whose incredibly ornate black and gold Rococo interior was built in 1760. Another important tip is to view all of the houses in the surrounding area to truly admire their designs and age.
