Lemon Law: Knowing When To Litigate

By:

It is evident that the need for lemon laws are clear to todays legislators. A Portland, Oregon lawmaker has just proposed to expand the Oregon states lemon law, and the Oklahoma House of Representatives has just overwhelmingly passed a bill strengthening consumer protection in the case of defective vehicles.

The reasons for these laws are clear to anyone who has had reason to use them. Dealers and manufacturers will use every tactic imaginable to get out from under any obligation. These include repeatedly finding nothing wrong with a vehicle and issuing all manner of explanations to the consumer detailing how there is really nothing wrong with his or her car.

Because of these tacticsand many more can and do exist beyond themit is best to immediately seek qualified legal assistance the moment you perceive that you are driving a defective vehicle. Without an attorney, many consumers would just give up and go away, said Norman Taylor, leading California lemon law attorney. This is just what manufacturers want.

Manufacturers and dealers also count on consumers not knowing how the law can assist them. Few people really know or understand their legal rights, said Taylor. Their knowledge of the law seldom extends beyond what they may have learned watching television. They dont spend their valuable time and energy planning to do battle with giant corporations. They have better things to do.

Taylor speaks from long experience. He has been a lemon law specialist since 1987, and he and his firm, Norman Taylor and Associates, have handled over 6,000 cases for consumers with a 98 percent success rate.

There are still many people out there who dont know enough about lemon laws and there are currently many states in this country that want to push for legislation. Dont let dealers and manufacturers get away with it. If you feel you are a victim look for an experienced lemon law attorney that can be located through the telephone directory or through your local bar association. You can also search the internet for the terms lemon law or lemon lawyers and locate specific attorney web sites.

The moral: The lemon laws at both state and national levels are for you, the consumer. Once you have decided to pursue your rights under the lemon law, it is important that you seek legal advice as soon as possible, Taylor concluded. The lemon law is for your protection. Make use of it.
