Led Plant Lights - A Bright Idea For Gardens

By:

You may have a green thumb, but did you know that your plants need red and blue lights to fruit and bloom to their full potential? To give your plants the right kind of color wavelengths they need in order to thrive, LED plant lights are your best solution. This modern garden provides energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly benefits as well.

Every good gardener knows that plants need light for photosynthesis, the process in which they make their own food and nourishment. While regular and sufficient sunlight is enough to make plants grow, plants only need light specifically in the blue and red spectra to manufacture chlorophyll.

Modern gardens, especially indoor grow areas, now use selected and focused light to provide plants the best environment for growing, blooming and fruiting. LED plant lights can be made to produce the kind and amount of light needed in each plant growth stage. For example, blue wavelengths encourage healthy growth, while red hues promote flowering and fruiting. These lights can even be combined or customized to target specific growth stage. Budding seedlings love deep red tints, while pinkish tones, produced from a red-blue blend, are perfect for blooming flowers and fruits. Brilliant blue shades are best for sprouting and cloning batches.

LED plant lights are beneficial not only for plants, but for the gardener - and the environment, too. This type of lighting system can produce eight times of the most critical kind of light needed by plants, but uses only 20-30% of the energy that traditional systems need. Thus, you can maximize photosynthesis, while minimizing energy costs.

LED lamps also do not generate high heat levels, so using them diminishes high temperature in the garden and harmful hot spots near the plants. Try it for yourself: a LED lamp will feel cool or just slightly warm to the touch, while incandescent or HID lights feel hot if turned on even for a few minutes. This is because each lamp uses only 10 watts, which are purely utilized to give off light. Compare this to a 100 watt incandescent bulb, which utilizes only 10% of the energy to emanate light, while the rest is wasted on unnecessary heat.

With LED plant lights, you will not only save on energy costs but on the lighting system maintenance itself as well. These lights may initially cost a little more than ordinary light bulbs, but its long lifespan - guaranteed to last 50,000 hours - will prove cost-efficient in the long run. LED usually lasts 4 to 8 years, compared to cheaper alternatives which need replacement every month or so. Another cost-saver is the requirement for less equipment when using this lighting system. They require no ballast, and so do not need additional mounting required of heavy lamps and bulbs. There is also no need to add reflectors as needed in conventional lighting systems that emit scattered light, because LED lights have built-in reflectors that allow them a focused beam. And unlike other energy-saving lights such as CFL, which contains hazardous mercury chemicals, LED lights are safe and durable so disposing of them will not contaminate landfills.

With all these benefits, Led plant light may just be the most brilliant idea that lights up your garden.
