Led Lighting And How Use Of Silicon Can Further Improve Its Performance

By:

Lighting technology today needs a serious relook. This is important because the question now is about saving our planet from otherwise irreversible contamination. There is an increasing threat from global warming, and it is being discussed more frequently in the public domain. When it comes to lighting technology, there is an increased interest in the solar and LED-based lighting. This is leading to newer energy-efficient lighting products being designed.

Under LED lighting technology, a semiconducting material is used to convert electricity directly into light. LEDs are semiconductor devices that can convert electrical energy directly into light. This is because of the nature of bonding that occurs in the semiconductor solid. This technique significantly improves energy efficiency. Authors Tobin Smith, Jim Woods, and Liz Claman in their book Billion Dollar Green: Profit from the Eco Revolution (2008) confirms that LED lights consume three to four times less energy than incandescent bulbs.

Valen Light Technologies is a key player in Cree LEDs, ground lighting, LED outdoor lighting, and shelter lighting in Australia. Australia-based Valen Light and US-based Cree LEDs are making excellent synergies. For example, eSHINE Street lighting range developed by Valen Light technologies has been enhanced by application of state-of-the-art Cree XP LED suite. Add to this Valen Lights in-house research in secondary optics and the result is improved Photometry for low wattage lighting while meeting stringent lighting standards.

Incidentally, it is important to restate that only those lighting items should be consumed that meet guidelines by global agencies including EU (UNI EN 13201-2-2004: ROAD LIGHTING), North America (RP8 2000), Asia (CEN 2003) and Australian Standards (AS1158).

Today, lighting engineers are particularly interested in using Silicons for high brightness LED lights. For decades, Silicon has been used as a source for durable dielectric insulations and providing hindrance against environmental contaminations. This element has also been harnessed for its stress-relieving shock and vibration absorption properties. Silicon maintains its physical and chemical properties over a wide range of temperature, humidity, and other extreme environmental factors. Silicon lighting has a stress-relieving effect, and LED-based lighting that uses silicon can find a good use in healthcare.
