Learning To Unwind

By:

For the most part, our lives are full of chaos. Those working in urban centres, wake up early, rush to work via some form of crowded public transport, spend eight or more hours at a desk, then get back home and have to deal with a number of personal obligations. This leaves little time for relaxation. In fact, most of us are so tightly wound that even when we do make the time to relax we find it impossible to do so.

So how can one truly unwind? The answer to this question will vary for each person. For some people relaxation can only happen in total silence, for others it might be finding peace amidst the noise and hectic of life. A few popular ways are:

1.Getting out of town:

For many people unwinding is near impossible unless they are away from busy streets, a ringing telephone and the internet. If that's the case and you're finding you need a break, you might want to treat yourself to a little road trip. Even if you only have a day, it's still great to get out of the city, breathe in some new (probably fresher) air, and take some time to yourself. Those who have the means, often build houses a couple of hours outside of the city so that they can enjoy this type of peace and quiet almost every weekend.

2.Visit a spa:

Spa treatments are a real luxury. There are few things as enjoyable as being pampered head to toe. Lying up on a table and being massaged while listening to quiet music is a wonderful way to unwind. As is having your feet scrubbed, your skin rejuvenated, and your face cleaned up properly. The nice thing about spas is that every part of them is calming. From the lemon water that you're often served, the food you're given to eat, the music that plays, the gardens on the property, even the voices of the aestheticians working with you.

3.Hot air ballooning:

This may not seem like an obvious choice for some, but there is something very therapeutic and calming about floating through the skies and staring out at the world underneath and around you. Not only do you get to experience what it feels like to fly (sort of), but you are humbled by the vastness and beauty of the world, which is relaxing in itself.

The above are three very different ways to unwind. Can you think of any others?
