Learning To Sail In The Canaries

By:

The Royal Yacht Association (RYA) was founded in 1875 and has emerged to become the governing body for all forms of boating in the UK. In much the same way that the Football Association oversees and administers all things related to soccer. The body aims to increase the number of people who enjoy boating and as a result accredits numerous sailing schools around the world to conduct RYA courses in numerous locations around the globe.

For anyone planning to learn to sail the best place to start is to find RYA courses in a location that you´d also like to visit. As these learning holidays can now be taken in many different places around the globe. For example, why mess about on the Solent in the cold when you could instead be gliding though the waters around Lanzarote - a small Canary Island located off the coast of Africa. A much more clement environment for anyone planning to take RYA sailing courses.

Sailing holidays mean more than just spending time on the water and Lanzarote also offers plenty to do off the water as well as an enjoyable location for learning to sail. Thanks to the fact that there are loads of unusual visitor attractions to explore. The best of which were developed by a famous island born artist called Cesar Manrique, who worked in tandem with the surreal volcanic terrain of the island to create Lanzarote´s six main cultural sites. The best known of which are probably the Jameos del Agua, Timanfaya National Park and the Mirador del Rio.

Manrique was born on Lanzarote in 1919 and developed a passion for the island during family holidays at Famara on the North West coast. Where he would play for hours in rocks pools, watching the reflection of the cliffs that flank the beach here in the water. All of which helped to fire his creativity - as it is till possible to detect some of these colours and textures in his paintings today.

Manrique also had a passion for keeping the island as close to its natural state as possible and embarked on his own personal battle to ensure the island remained as attractive as possible.

The fact that the island has remained unspoilt as much as possible is one of the reasons that many visitors return to the island time and time again.
