Learning To Prevent Indigestion Symptoms

By:

When we speak of indigestion symptoms, we are talking about indigestion as this is the chief complaint when one feels a discomfort in the upper part of the abdominal area. Most frequently there is a feeling of bloating as well as burping and a nauseated feeling. Whatever causes the indigestion, everyone suffers from them but not everyone suffers in the same way.

When suffering from indigestion symptoms it is best to look at it from a prevention angle rather than the treatment angle. Look at the symptoms individually: fullness even before the meal is done, discomfort after the meal, pain in the upper abdomen even if just moments after a meal or burning in the upper abdominal area.

One of the worst indigestion symptoms is heartburn. And what does heartburn feel like as opposed to indigestion? Heartburn, although a symptom, is not indigestion and it is usually a burning painful sensation in the center of the chest that may travel the esophageal tract. This acid reflux can usually be remedied by simple antacids.

Generally, indigestion symptoms should disappear after taking some time off from spicy foods and shifting to soft foods to give the digestive tract a time to recover. However, there are times of concern when the indigestion continues for some time like a couple of weeks, and then complications present themselves like blood in faeces, vomiting, heartburn that does not let up but continues to radiate to the arms as well as shortness of breath. In this case, a trip to the emergency room would be a great idea.

Just like heartburn, indigestion have the same causes, namely the fatty oily spicy foods, smoking, alcohol and caffeine. This all points to an irresponsible lifestyle that most Americans are guilty of and it is not curious to see that there are more and more incidents of indigestion and heartburn every year.

The best thing to prevent either heartburn or indigestion is to correct the diet. A complete lifestyle makeover should do the trick and it is best that a good diet be followed after consulting a doctor and a nutritionist. With this in mind, not only will you be able to get rid of the indigestion symptoms that can ruin a date, but that you can actually go through a pain free and healthy life.
