If you recently left your marriage, or recently got divorced, you may be in a situation where money is going out faster than it is coming in. If you were a housewife, before you can get a stable job and monthly alimony, there is that certain period in time where you may not have any source of income and thus, are struggling to learn how to live with less money. If you are one of these women, or know somebody who is, there are some ways that can be learned so that you still live well with less money.

Stop Buying What You Do Not Need and Budget Wisely

You might be one of those women who are fond of buying things that they dont even need. As one who has been there and done that, I can totally relate to that. But when you are on a tight budget, you need to reevaluate what you need and what you simply want. And then stop buying the items on the want list. These are the unnecessary things. Budget wisely, and set aside money for food and bills. As much as possible, never scrimp on food since you and the children need it. Make it a priority to buy healthy foods and stay away from junk food. When you have more income, you can start adding other things to your shopping list slowly.

Buy in Bulk

One way of spending less money but ending up with a lot of things is by shopping in bulk. Take advantage of wholesale and factory prices. When you buy items sold in these manners, you will end up buying a lot and paying only very little. As a result, you also have extra money left for other things. A word of warning, though if you are the type who gets carried away by these lower prices, then stick to buying only the necessities for the week.

Lessen the Prepared Foods

Ready to eat and heat-only foods may be useful especially if you have a lot of things to do, but keep in mind that these cost a lot. Besides, they are downright unhealthy. With this, take time to cook real food. Head on to the market to buy the ingredients that you need. This may take time but this method is cheaper and is way healthier than packaged and prepared foods.

Go Generic

Medicines and vitamins are expensive. With this, buy the generic brands if they are available. Generic medicines are made similar to those sold under trade names. They have the same chemical compositions and produce the same results. The big difference is that they are cheaper.

Take the Bus

If you own a car, use it only when you really have to. Commute and take the public modes of transportation such as the bus and train. With the world in oil crisis nowadays, gasoline prices have gone up. So save gas and save money and take the bus.

Take Advantage of Store Sales

Never pass on the opportunity to buy in stores going out of business. These stores give huge discounts on items. Rule of thumb on this, though, is to buy only the things that you really need even if all the items in the store are on sale.

Free Entertainment

letting your children watch TV or play video games for long periods of time has two bad effects. One is that they dont get the exercise that they need and two, you end up with high electric bills. Take advantage of free entertainment. Take them out for a walk in the park. Go to the playground where they can play with other children. Head on to the library and borrow books. Be creative.

Call to Action:

Keep track of every single item that you spend money on for the next one month. Sort the items in different categories (rent, food, household items, transportation, clothes, etc.). At the end of the month review your tracking sheet and figure out where you can cut back. Be brutal with yourself and invest the amount you save.
