Learning To Heal Your Liver With Food Naturally

The liver isn't the most glamorous part of the body, but it is a hard worker. Among its many jobs are detoxification, protein synthesis, and the production of biochemicals needed for digestion. It's not glamorous, but it's very important: You can't live without it. If you want to be healthy, keeping your liver functioning as it should is mandatory.

For most people, the liver is not really on our to-do list in regards to health concerns. However, when looking at it, you may decide that it does deserve much more of our attention and a bit more care. So how can you help your liver?

I wanted to figure out how to fix this problem and decided to begin a detox. Cleaning and detoxing the body always seems like a great idea.

But WebMD convinced me otherwise. They actually said that "most natural liver detox diets have little science supporting them. . . are very restrictive and can cause harm . . . ."

Many detox diets can be restrictive and quite impossible to keep up for a short period of time, and if it involves having to fast, that can decrease your bodies metabolism and also deprive your system of it's necessary nutrients. The process of fasting can also become addictive because there is euphoric feeling. If you have low blood sugar or diabetes, a chronic or heart condition, you won't be able to do it. Forget about it if you are pregnant, a senior, a teenager or even breastfeeding.

My decision to take care of my liver is now being approached with a supportive and less aggressive stance. I went to research what my liver needs and not exactly what I think it needs.

Have you ever wondered what food is good for the liver? Here is a list of foods that help to fight off radicals and promote the natural detox process:

Apples. The pectin in apples attaches itself to heavy metals to help your body excrete them.

Artichokes are known for increasing the production of bile that assists with the movement of toxins through the bowels.

Folate is found in beets. Folate is a type of B vitamin that should be taken daily which will help to regularly clean your liver.

Bile flow is stimulated by eating bitter leafy greens such as, endive, chicory, dandelion, etc.

Cruciferous vegetables normally are brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and cabbage. They all contain phytochemicals that help to breakdown toxins and also liver production of enzymes that are needed for detox.

Garlic has allicin in it that is like a sulfur compound for ridding the liver of things such as mercury or any other additives. Most people don't like the smell, so as an alternative, there are garlic pills available.

Other fruits such as raisins, grapefruits, blueberries, prunes, oranges, pears, cantaloupes, and strawberries all have important antioxidants. It's good to have at least 3 servings a day.

It is quite possible to have a healthy liver without torturing yourself through the process. From the above list of foods, the process can be quite enjoyable. A healthy liver makes for a happier you.
