Sports in general needless to say require a lot strength and endurance. Especial track and field events such as discus throws, javelin throws, shot put, long jump, high jump, running etc. Discus throw is one such popular event in the Olympics. The basic objective of the game is pretty simple and it is to throw the heavy discus farther than his or her opponents.

The basic rules were set by IAAF (International Association of Athletics Foundation). They are the governing body of all athletic events and they have every authority to keep changing the rules.
The rules and regulations of the game are as follows and it is very simple;

Rule for Discus: This rule is implemented for the object that is to be thrown. It could be either made of wood or other suitable material with a circular edge and metal rim. It should weigh around only 2kg, and have a diameter of 22cms for men. It should not weigh more than 1kg and have a diameter of 18cms for women. The cross section of the edge should have radius of 6mm and it should be a proper circle. The sides of the discus shall be identical. The sides should taper in a straight line from the point where the curve of the rim starts to a circle which has a radius of 25 mm to 28.5 mm, from the midpoint of the discus. The disc in general should be pretty smooth.

Rule for Discus Cage: This rule is meant for the pavilion from which the players throw the discus. It should be maintained and prepared in a particular way that it can arrest the flight of the discus at a speed of around 25 meters per second. There should be no threats for the players of the discus rebounding towards them. The shape of the cage according to the rules should be a U. The width of mouth of the cage should be only around 6 meters and around 7 meters in front of the middle of the throwing circle. The height of the netting panels at the lowest point has to be a minimum of 4 meters. This netting can be made of synthetic fiber or mid or high tensile steel wire. This rule is very crucial when it comes discus game.

Rule for Discus Throw: This rule is actual guidelines when it comes to throwing. The discus has to be thrown only after he or she stands on the inner circle which has a diameter of about 2.5 meters. While the athletes attempt to throw the disc, they should not touch the top of the metal rim. However they can afford to touch the inner part of the metal rim. An Athlete is not supposed to touch the ground outside the stipulated circle. Before the disk touches the ground after the throw, the athlete is not permitted to step out of his circle. If they do so, they are disqualified or their throw is considered as foul. Usually an athlete is given about 8 chances to throw and the best of them is recorded. If the disc lands outside the landing area, the throw is considered as invalid.
