Learn The Facts About Panic Attacks

By:

Panic attacks are not a feeling or a fear that one has control over. This is a fear that freezes a person so that he/she is not always able to get past it. The person that lives with it is the person that hurts the most. They rarely get understanding or emotional support from anyone including themselves, and are subject to a lack of compassion and insensitivity. This disorder does not always come from a way of thinking, or a bad past experience, although that could trigger it more.

The first thing you should do is to have your doctor check you out. Do not be afraid to have it checked if you think it's anxiety. At one time, people would feel embarrassed when they found out that it was "all in their head". But it's not all in your head.

Anxiety and panic attacks are real and you'd be surprised to learn how many people suffer from this condition. Sadly, many suffer quietly at home, too afraid to venture beyond their safe place.

A panic attack may leave the person feeling utterly exhausted afterward. This may be caused by the flood of adrenaline and other stress hormones released when the panic attack starts. These "fight or flight" hormones cause an enormous output of the body's energy resources. When the attack is over, exhaustion ensues as the body tries to recover.

Use a meditation technique to focus on the issue of secondary gain. Give yourself permission to become conscious, over the coming hours, days and weeks, of any secondary gain you are getting from your anxiety. The ensuing thoughts may include some odd things, perhaps linked to childhood memories or perhaps something completely different. Either way, note them down on your list.

As with diet, revolutionizing your fitness regime will not cure your anxiety but can make you feel better. You should always check with your healthcare professional before starting or changing an exercise regime. The idea is not to bulk up like the Incredible Hulk, nor to be as thin as a long distance runner. Its just about increasing your general fitness levels, and toning up your muscles a bit. Some experts are inclined to go on about body oxygen levels and brain chemistry. They may be right but I would be inclined to stick to tangibles. As your fitness increases you will find you sleep a bit better and have an improved body image. You will also have more energy and feel calmer.

Take a notebook, a binder, whatever works for you to write in. Carry it with you if you can, but at least write in it every night while things are still fresh. I would like you to write down every time that you felt some form of anxiety, no matter how small, up to a full blown panic attack. One of mine used to be that each morning I would feel mild anxiety as I got up and did my morning routine. As I started to notice this, I had no idea why I was even feeling this way at first. But I identified it in my notebook, and by noticing it, I then was able to start to realize what the cause was. But that step is for another day.
