Learn Some Techniques To Manage Stress. Good Life Skills To Reduce Risks To Health

By:

Modern day living and working can be very stressful for many people. Although some stress is normal, and is a natural part of life, too much stress can cause people's lives to become very unbalanced. People may start to lose contact with friends and even family, they may start to become unhealthily reliant on alcohol, drugs, and even food, and they are at risk of developing conditions such as depression and anxiety. This article shows some techniques which help to manage stress.

If the stress is due to work, then techniques such as time management and prioritizing can be really useful. The person under stress often spends their time worrying about things rather than getting started, and they also may not be tackling their work in an effective way. Something as simple as making a list, and then doing what must really be done today, can be much more helpful than trying to do too much, and then failing, and then feeling bad about yourself.

One way in which stress can be reduced is by undertaking regular physical exercise. Exercise and sports release chemicals in the brain which immediately cause a person to feel better. A quick 30 minute walk at lunchtime will release "feel good" chemicals in the human brain, and make that person much more effective and productive in the afternoon.

Stress can also be reduced significantly by meditation, and by simple relaxation exercises. A few minutes spent emptying your mind from stressful thoughts, and controlling your breathing, will make you feel much better.

Learning how to lead a balanced life can be one of the most important ways in which a person can relieve stress. Some people, when they are under stress, spend so much time focused on their problems that they lose touch with family and friends, and they don't have any time for activities which they used to find enjoyable. This type of unbalanced lifestyle is a significant risk to a person's well being: they have nothing to fall back on in the event of any setback. Inability to lead a balanced life style can eventually lead to illnesses including anxiety and depression.

When you lead a balanced life you have the support of family and friends to help you cope with problems, and those same problems do not same as big in the first place, because you always have some activity away from work to keep you sane.

One other way to reduce stress to learn how to resolve conflicts successfully. Learning "people skills", such as assertiveness training, can help people to remove stressful and frustrating obstacles, without being manipulative and/or aggressive.

Employers can help their workforce become more productive, and suffer less time off work due to stress related illnesses, by training their staff in the work and life techniques for managing stress.
