Ldl Cholesterol - Tips On How To Lower Yours

By:

There are two different types of cholesterol, good and bad. Good cholesterol is referred to HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol and bad cholesterol is referred to LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol. What makes LDL cholesterol "bad" is at increased levels it causes the accumulation of atherosclerotic plaque which narrows the arteries. When this happens, a blood clot can form which leads to the heart and can result in a heart attack or stroke. This is why its important to keep your LDL cholesterol low and increase your HDL cholesterol. Some tips to do this are below.

The first thing you must do is exercise. When you are not getting enough physical activity, you tend to add on extra weight which also raises your cholesterol levels. Exercise helps you to lose the weight and reduce your LDL levels.

You should take a supplement containing Niacin (vitamin B3) daily which helps to raise HDL levels, decrease LDL and triglyceride levels. This balance helps to keep your body healthy. Be careful not to take too much of this vitamin as it can cause liver damage if taken more than directed.

Follow a healthy diet which consists of fresh fruits and vegetables. These contain fiber, antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals. Fish is also good as it is a natural source of Omega-3 fatty acid which lower cholesterol levels in the body due to the DHA and EPA fats. Omega 3 reduces the triglyceride levels in the blood and helps to increase good cholesterol which gives our body a healthy balance.

By following a regular exercise routine and eating healthy, we can naturally lower our LDL cholesterol levels to avoid diseases and live a healthy life. You can have your cholesterol levels tested and consult with your doctor to see where you are at and if you should be worried about your levels at this point. Your doctor will give you suggestions on what you can do to lower your LDL levels if needed. He might prescribe you a medication that will help to balance out your cholesterol or he might just suggest a simple lifestyle change without the need for drugs.
